Botox is a product that is injected into specific muscles to relax them. The most common uses for Botox are to reduce the frown lines between the eyes, to lift the lateral eyebrows, or to reduce the forehead lines and crows feet.
However Botox can be used in other areas of the face: to reduce the downturn of the mouth, to reduce chin creasing, to reduce the creases around the mouth. Botox can also be used to reduce headaches and to reduce sweating of the armpits, hands and feet.Botox works by reducing dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are creases and lines due to repeated muscle contraction, not wrinkling due to gravity. After injection, it takes a few days and up to 2 weeks to take full effect. When the muscle is not active, the wrinkle will soften. If the wrinkle is very deep, that means that the wrinkle is very long standing and the dermis of the skin is thinned. Botox may not eliminate a deep wrinkle. A filler may be needed to erase a deep wrinkle.Botox last approximately 3 months, but the longevity may vary from person to person and from muscle to muscle. Repeated injections are required to prevent the fold, crease or line from returning. For more information, please visit: www.botoxcosmetic.ca
