Some women want to have larger breasts than nature gave them. Some women want to return to their natural breast size after weight loss or children. Other women were born with one breast larger than the other. Breast implants are used to increase the size of a woman’s breasts, to “reinflate” them, and sometimes to help lift the breast. Breast implants are very much like balloons, only filled with salt water or with silicone.
Many decisions need to be made when considering implants: Size of implant, Shape of Implant, Saline vs Silicone implants, Location of implants (in front of or behind the pectoralis muscle), Location of Incision. These are things that need to be discussed with Dr. Tang to ensure you get the look you desire.
Silicone implants are becoming more commonly used for breast augmentation. They have been available in Canada for several years now. Dr.Tang uses cohesive gel implants or “gummy bear” implants. They provide a very soft and natural looking and feeling breast.
Breast implant surgery involves a 3 to 5 cm incision underneath the breast in the fold. The implant is then inserted under the breast or under the pectoralis muscle. The position of the implants and the look of the new breasts are checked and the incision is closed. A small drain is placed. This drain is removed before you leave the hospital.
